Amanda Bynes Kicked Out of NYC Ritz-Carlton for Smoking Pot

July 20th

NEW YORK, NY — On Thursday, Amanda Bynes was asked to leave a Ritz-Carlton in New York City after repeatedly smoking marijuana in her room and being disrespectful to the staff.

From the beginning of her stay, Bynes was reportedly rude to the hotel staff and berated the clerk who checked her in.  Bynes called the clerk “too ugly” to check her in and offered to give her contact information for her plastic surgeon.

According to TMZ, the 27-year-old actress also smoked marijuana in her room daily and tried to hide the smell by using spray chemicals, despite warnings from the staff to stop.

Due to her bad behavior, the hotel ejected her several hours before the scheduled check-out time on Thursday.

Bynes reportedly denied these accusations and told TMZ that she had left voluntarily and that she does not smoke marijuana.

Bynes was kicked out of her Manhattan apartment in June following a May 23rd arrest for allegedly tossing a bong out of a 36th floor window.

Though the once-bright child actress had a promising career, progressing from hosting “The Amanda Show” on Nickelodeon to starring in feature films like “She’s the Man” and “What a Girl Wants,” the fizzling starlet has not appeared in a film since landing a supporting role in “Easy A” in 2010.

Judge Strikes Down Colorado Rule Restricting Marijuana Magazine Sales

June 12th

DENVER, CO — A federal judge on Tuesday struck down a provision of Colorado’s marijuana legalization law that would have required stores to sell cannabis-themed publications behind the counter, like pornography.

Magazine publishers and bookstores had filed a lawsuit against the state last week, arguing that the measure, passed by the Colorado legislature this spring, should be overturned before it takes effect on July 1.

U.S. District Judge Richard Matsch’s ruling came a day after the state attorney general’s office, which would have defended the measure in court, agreed with the plaintiffs that it was unconstitutional.

“The defendants have conceded the invalidity of the code provision cited in the complaints,” Matsch said in his order granting a permanent injunction.

Colorado voters approved the recreational use of marijuana by adults last fall and charged lawmakers with setting up regulations to sell and tax cannabis products.

Supporters of the behind-the-counter provision said it was aimed at reducing juveniles’ exposure to the material.

Actress Amanda Bynes Arrested in NYC for Tossing Bong Out Window

May 24th

Amanda Bynes

NEW YORK, NY — Actress Amanda Bynes was arrested in New York City on Thursday after she allegedly threw a bong out the window of a midtown Manhattan apartment building, a police official said.

New York police received a call on Thursday night from an employee at the 47th Street high-rise building where Bynes lives, said NYPD spokesman Detective Brian Sessa.

The employee reported that someone was smoking marijuana in the lobby.

When police arrived, they were directed to Bynes’ apartment, where the actress invited police in, Sessa said.

Officers detected a strong smell of marijuana in the apartment and observed the bong – a tube-shaped water pipe commonly used for smoking marijuana – in the apartment, according to Sessa.

The officers went to Bynes’ apartment where they saw heavy smoke and a bong, which Bynes then threw out the window in front of the officers.

The actress lives on the 36th floor, The New York Daily News reported.

Bynes, 27, a former child star who had her own TV comedy sketch show on Nickelodeon at age 13, was taken into custody and charged with tampering with physical evidence, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of marijuana.

She was taken to Roosevelt Hospital for psychiatric observation bef. . . . . READ MORE

Tommy Chong: Legalize Marijuana to Save the Country

May 16th

Tommy Chong

NEW YORK, NY — The Grammy Award-winning comedy duo Cheech and Chong based their 42-year career on counterculture humor with a particular emphasis on marijuana use. But these days Tommy Chong sees the recreational drug as something more than fodder for jokes about stoned hippies.

The 74-year-old comedian thinks legalizing marijuana on a federal level would offer numerous benefits, including a boost to the U.S. economy if it were taxed.

“Look at the situation we’re in now. Sequesters. Cuts. Everything cut across the board. Now, the government is tapped into the biggest cash crop in the world,” Chong said. “There’s little manufacturing cost. You don’t have to do anything except watch it grow and get a couple of hippies to cut it and then put it in a bag.”

His ambitions for marijuana may be outsized, but he notes the potential medical uses that have already inspired some states to legalize the drug. Nearly 20 states have enacted laws to legalize medical marijuana, and two of them – Colorado and Washington – have totally legalized it. And at least 12 states have pending legislation to legalize for medical use.

“Hemp itself is going to save the world,” Chong said.

Chong’s comedy partner, Richard “Cheech” Marin, 66, thinks lega. . . . . READ MORE

Verizon Wireless Amphitheater Denies Marijuana Reform Activists

May 13th

Verizon Wireless Amphitheater

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO — Marijuana reform activists from Missouri were denied vending space during a weekend event at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, citing concerns that a booth promoting marijuana legalization could strain the venue’s relationship with the city and its police force.

Show-Me Cannabis, a Missouri organization that advocates for the reform of marijuana laws in the state, had submitted a vendor application for Pointfest, a multi-stage concert sponsored by local radio station The Point (KPNT 105.7 FM).  The same radio station began airing a four-week ad campaign for Show Me Cannabis last week.

The organization had intended to hand out literature, generate interest for upcoming initiative campaigns, and sell t-shirts at the event.

Last week, a representative from the Live Nation-owned venue contacted Show Me Cannabis to inform them that their vendor application had been declined, citing fears that the Maryland Heights Police Department would shut the booth down for “advocating illegal activity.”

In response to the application being denied, Show Me Cannabis’ John Payne contacted the Chief of Police in Maryland Heights, Colonel William Carson, who acknowledged the organization’s First Amendmen. . . . . READ MORE
