AZ: New Tuscon Area Medical Marijuana Dispensary Hosting Open House Today

July 20th

MARANA, AZ — Arizona’s newest medical marijuana dispensary, Nature Med, located just North of Tuscon in Marana, will be welcoming new patients with an open house Saturday, July 20, from 10 am until 5 pm.

Nature Med 2The event is open to all current Arizona medical marijuana card holders, as well as non-patients who are interested in learning how to obtain medical marijuana certification.  Snacks and refreshments will be provided, and staff will be on hand to answer any questions from current and future medical marijuana patients.

Located less than a mile west of Interstate 10, Nature Med is a non-profit, state licensed medical marijuana dispensary operated by a father and son team with a medical background.

“My father is a registered nurse, and has been in the healthcare field for over 30 years,”  says dispensary general manager Jacob Schmidt. “He has seen great suffering and pain in patients who are most often prescribed pharmaceutical pain medication.  While these may work for many people, others find the negative benefits of these opiates to outweigh the positive.”

“We believe in a natural approach to physical and mental relief,” Schmidt added.  ”The cannabis plant is a great alternati. . . . . READ MORE

New Jersey’s Only Medical Marijuana Dispensary Temporarily Closed

June 29th

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The only operating medical marijuana dispensary in New Jersey, Montclair’s Green Leaf Compassion Center, announced Friday that they are closing for about two weeks due to a shortage of medical quality marijuana.

New Jersey’s medical marijuana program has been heavily criticized for being overly restrictive, and has gotten off to a painfully slow start.  Three years after approving dispensaries in the state, Greenleaf Compassion Center remains the only open dispensary, and is only serving limited patients in the northern part of the state.

Now, because of New Jersey’s restrictive medical marijuana regulations, among which require dispensaries to grown their own cannabis and can carry only three strains at a time, the state’s only open dispensary must close for about two weeks to replenish their supply.

The closure comes as a result of a recent crop being deemed “inferior” by dispensary operators, who say they lost about ten percent of their limited supply of marijuana this month.

“We need another two weeks, perhaps,” says Greenleaf Chief Operating Officer Julio Valentin. “We are trying to build our supply up so we never have to close again. We are living harvest to harvest.”

“We continue to be focused on doing everything we can to service as many patients as possible while working in a highly regulated industry,” added Joe Steve. . . . . READ MORE

Los Angeles Citizens Vote to Regulate Medical Marijuana

May 23rd

LOS ANGELES, CA – The citizens of Los Angeles voted to regulate medical marijuana by voting to pass Proposition D Tuesday, one of three medical marijuana regulation measures on the ballot.

Proposition D, which received 62.57% of the vote, caps the number of collectives at those who opened prior to 2007, about 130, raises the gross receipts tax from $50 to $60 per $1000 of gross receipts, and establishes the distances they must keep from schools, parks, one another and residential neighborhoods.

It also requires that collectives be closed between 8 p.m. and 10 a.m., prohibits the consumption of marijuana on the premises and requires background checks on managers.

The Proposition also does not allow for a new collective to receive a permit if one of the pre-2007 collectives closes.

Proposition D was also supported by several members of the City Council, the Greater Los Angeles Collective Association (GLACA), the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW), both Los Angeles mayoral candidates and the current city attorney and his challenger.

Under the Proposition, organizations consisting of four or more people who cultivate, process, distribute or give away medical marijuana . . . . . READ MORE

Los Angeles Medical Marijuana Dispensary Vote Tuesday

May 20th

la dispensary

LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles politicians have struggled for more than five years to regulate medical marijuana, trying to balance the needs of the sick against some neighborhood concerns that medical marijuana dispensaries may attract crime.

Voters will head to the polls Tuesday to decide how Los Angeles should regulate medical marijuana dispensaries with three separate measures that seek to either limit the number of dispensaries or allow new ones to open and join an estimated several hundred others that currently operate.

Election Day in the nation’s second-largest city comes just two weeks after a pivotal state Supreme Court decision gave cities and counties the authority to ban dispensaries.

More than 200 local municipalities have bans, and some cities that were awaiting guidance from the state’s highest court have taken immediate action this month and begun shuttering clinics.

While some cities have been able to manage medical marijuana collectives and dispensaries, Los Angeles fumbled with the is. . . . . READ MORE
